“ What was all this about , ” I asked them , “ this Bande Mataram and Bharat Mata ki jai ? ” मैंने उनसे कहा , “ वंदेमातरम और यह भारत माता की जय , यह सब क़्या है ? ”

Was it then of the mountains and rivers and deserts and trees and stones of Hindustan ? तो फिर क़्या यह हिंदुस्तान के पहाड़ों , नदियों , रेगिस्तानों , पेड़-पौधों और पत्थरों की जय है ?

Why then let us shout it again all together and with right goodwill : Bharat Mata ki jai . तब फिर आइए , हम सब मिल एक बार फिर यह नारा एक दूसरे की शुभकामना करते हुए लगायें- ' भारत माता की जय ' .

And so when you shout Bharat Mata- ki jai , you shout your own jai as well as the jai of our brothers and sisters all over Hindustan . और इसलिए जब ' भारत माता की जय ' का नारा लगाते हैं , तब आप अपनी और इस सारे हिंदुस्तान में बसने वाले हमारे भाइयों और बहनों की जय का नारा लगाते हैं .

And so when you shout Bharat Mata- ki jai , you shout your own jai as well as the jai of our brothers and sisters all over Hindustan . और इसलिए जब ' भारत माता की जय ' का नारा लगाते हैं , तब आप अपनी और इस सारे हिंदुस्तान में बसने वाले हमारे भाइयों और बहनों की जय का नारा लगाते हैं .

The anxious crowds standing outside the Circuit House attempted to shout their reverential cry of ' Mahatma Gandhi ki jai ' , but Gandhiji stopped it with a sign of his finger . सर्किट हाउस के बाहर खड़ी उत्तेजित भीड़ ने ' महात्मा गांधी की जय ' का अपना प्रिय नारा लगाना चाहा , लेकिन गांधीजी ने अपने हाथ के इशारे से उन्हें रोक दिया .

“ Surely our jai is for the people who live in India , the many millions who live in her villages and cities , ” I told them , and the answer was pleasing to them and they felt that it was right . मैंने उनसे कहा , “ निश्चय ही हम हिंदुस्तान के लाखों-करोड़ों लोगों की जय मनाते हैं , जो उसके गांवों और शहरों में रहते हैं . ” मेरा जवाब उन्हें अच्छा लगा और उन सबने महसूस किया कि यही ठीक है .

They then go on to dwell at great lengths upon the loves-halreds jealousies and intrigues in the royal clan and end with the victory of the one who is true and steadfast , over the one who is false and scheming . इनमें राज़्यपरिवारों की पारस्परिक ईर्ष्या-द्वेष भावना , प्रतिशोध , सौतिया-डाह तथा प्रतिशोघ में पड्यंत्र रचना आदि माव विषय-वस्तु के रूप में उपलब्ध होते हैं.अंततः धर्म तथा सत्य की जय और अधर्म तथा असत्य की पराजय होती है .
